Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 19th century - in the 1890 - 1891 School Year, to be precise - long before the other stories in the franchise: the original 1990s-set Harry Potter books, the 2020s set Cursed Child stage play and the 1920s-1930s set Fantastic Beasts film series. The game is published by WB's Portkey Games label, which was created in 2017 to develop games based on the franchise. Yet, simply having another option to be able to play Hogwarts Legacy, and especially the handheld versatility of the Switch, is a positive move for everyone in the gaming community and Harry Potter fans.Hogwarts Legacy is an Action RPG that's set in the Wizarding World franchise, and developed by Salt Lake City, Utah-based Avalanche Software, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Warner Bros. Sadly, it is very likely that the quality of the game will not be the same as many have come to expect from seeing the original version for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The good news for Nintendo Switch owners is that Hogwarts Legacy is still in development and expected to release on the Switch just in time for the holiday season. If players are required to download the game or use a physical cartridge, the size of the game could quickly fill up any space they have on their systems. The massive size of Hogwarts Legacy has led some to believe that it may not be able to run on the Switch without being a cloud version, but this has not yet been either verified or disputed by Nintendo or Avalanche Software. The Nintendo Switch has released several games as Cloud versions where players access the game online rather than having a physical cartridge or download on their system.
